A funny thing about this blog: most of the people that see me daily, don’t tend to read it. Which is fine, obviously. I get it. I don’t read blogs. I don’t keep up with other people’s lives very well. We’re all busy. We have things to do. I do think it’s funny though, when my dear sweet ex boyfriend continues to ask “are you pregnant yet?” every time I see him – to be noted, I see him often and his FAVORITE thing to do is read stuff on the internet.
So, as a general housekeeping post, here’s where we are currently:
- I have had all tests, all looked good
- I have been vaccinated for the chicken pox
- I have selected a sperm donor
- The selected sperm has been received by TRM (see previous post – Science Fiction – it’s hilarious and totally worth it)
- Now I wait
So I wait until I have (stop reading now, squeamish boys!) my period (which should be at the end of July), then I count 10 days from the first day of my period, and start taking ovulation tests. I went to the store to buy these things and they’re really expensive. Luckily, I found a pack of 50 (overkill? nah) on Amazon for like $20, and it should be here tomorrow – thanks, Amazon Prime.
When the little strip says go, I call the doctor’s office and show up the next day to get inseminated. Likely, at lunch, or in the morning before work. Then I walk into the office, and live my life like every other normal person who may or may not be pregnant.
Two weeks go by, and I utilize one of the (included in my pack of 50) pregnancy tests to see if it worked.
If it worked, we start down that road. If it didn’t work, we try again in September. And then October. And then we change up the donor – Dr Scotchie suggests trying with each donor up to 3 times and then switching up to someone else. Apparently not everyone’s chemistry works together, and it’s much simpler to do that than start futzing with fertility medication.
So that’s the news from here – looks like the first weekend in August may be The Big Day – and of course, as luck would have it, my friend who works at TRM is on vacation (selfish!) so I won’t see her there for the actual procedure. But if it doesn’t take, maybe next time around.
Really happening, people. Pretty excited.
OH! Also, I already got on the waiting list for two day care facilities downtown – you know, because that’s a thing you do before you even get pregnant. I looked at things like “name” and “date of birth” and even “due date” and just had to shrug and leave them blank. Ha ha ha ha. What a strange world.
