Prepare yourself for medical details.
So, the time has finally arrived. I’m going to start taking ovulation tests next week and when I get the green light (I’m assuming that’s how it works – per usual, no research), I call the office and go in the next day for “the procedure.” Estimated around August 8th at this point.
A few things to note: ovulation tests are crazy expensive. I was going to just grab one at the CVS the other day and the box of 7 was $40! What?! Luckily, I have a deep and meaningful relationship with Amazon so I found a box of 50 online for like $20 along with a bunch of pregnancy tests. They aren’t the fancy pantsy kind – they’re strips instead of sticks.
A friend suggested I invest in some of those little disposable shot glasses (you know, jello shot holders) and use those to then dip the strips in. I also mentioned my general shock at prices and she was like “Oh yeah! When we were trying before, I’d totally buy pregnancy tests at the Dollar Tree. When you’re taking them multiple times each month, it gets expensive!” I laughed because I’d just been telling someone how I felt like a pregnancy test is the sort of thing you probably shouldn’t buy at the dollar store, but it made sense in this case for sure.
Also, I’ve been trying to find a nice way to say “I’m getting inseminated!” And so far the best analogy I have come up with is “throwing the bucket of confetti!” along with the gesture, of course. I say we’re going to “see if it sticks.”
I’ve been overwhelmed with how many people are excited for me. I even went to dinner with a friend tonight who has already offered to have a baby shower at her house!
People keep asking things like: do you want a boy or a girl? Have you picked a name?
I laugh. I’m not even knocked up yet, people! Sure, I’ve thought about it but I’ve yet to make any decisions.
I’m also working on making the blog layout better. And getting stuff in the spare room ready to yard sale. And getting the spare room cleaned out for the eventual use as a nursery. And working on my garden. And going to the gym 6 days a week. And seeing friends. And finishing up the CFC soccer season. You know, the usual.
I plan to continue to update the blog as things progress – if I get a positive test, I’ll post about it. If I don’t, I’ll post about it. If something terrible happens, I’ll post about it. If something amazing happens, I’ll post about it. This is an outlet for me, a window for you into my life, and a support system as well. Every time I find out someone else is reading along that I didn’t know about, it makes me smile. I think it’s about 50% interest in the process and 50% care for me – and I’ll take 100% of it.
