Thanksgiving was this week and it was great. I had my little family over and we had a nice afternoon meal together, which was followed by a nap while my mom cleaned the kitchen – AMAZING! I cooked a couple of turkey breasts, mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, stuffing and a pumpkin pie (Paula Deen’s is amazing and I highly recommend it). My mom provided ham, sweet potatoes, baked apples and my aunt brought fantastic dessert. Maybe it’s pregnant brain, but I couldn’t remember who I had told to bring bread so we ended up with extra and some confusion, but it all worked out (plus now I have a whole tray of rolls to happily eat on my own).
I was glad to cook and also glad to hear my mom wanted to host Christmas. With a new baby next year, I expect my hostessing days will be numbered and I won’t be doing a big holiday meal at the house for a bit.
In other news, I guess I’m starting to LOOK more pregnant – I threw on a shirt I’d bought a month ago and at the time had shrugged off the impending pregnancy size change – when I put it on this time, I thought “oh man, I guess we’re really doing this now.” So I’m mostly thicker through my midsection, but the rest is soon to follow, I’m sure.
I also remembered that I have this little medical issue called vaso vagal sydrome, which means when my body is stressed I tend to faint. Which, to me, is no big deal anymore, but my blood pressure DOES drop down to a scary low (60’s) which would probably be an issue with this whole having-a-baby-thing. So, I added it to the list of questions to ask next week. More of a related question to “what are my birth method options?” Because I sort of dislike that the only two things available are to go natural or go numb – but if my body flips out over labor contractions the way it flips out over other things, options might be limited.
Overall, I’m not too worried, though. People have babies every day, so I’m sure we’ll figure it out. I’ve got a great team of people to help me and be on my side.
