28 Weeks – Grounded

So I went to my 28 week appointment yesterday with my friend and coach Katrina (and Davis, who was very helpful) and had the glucose test (which wasn’t nearly as gross as everyone says it is) and an ultrasound. Kiddo is current head-up, and we got to see some little hands and a profile while the tech searched around for all the measurements that we didn’t get last time.

At 28 weeks I’m headed into the third trimester and am still holding strong at having only gained a few pounds, but there was some level of concern from the doctor because kiddo’s fluid looked low on this ultrasound and she’s small (13th percentile). So, with no discussion allowed, I’m currently grounded from the gym (or walking on the treadmill or yoga or any of the other things I suggested I might go and do) and have been instructed to “sit on the couch and drink water – period.” While the majority of the other items looked fine, I’ll be headed to see a high risk doctor this coming week to get a second opinion.  My doctor said that she wasn’t super worried about it, but did think it was time I took it easy on purpose and wanted to make sure everything was alright.

She mentioned that fluid is one of those things that fluctuates and if you tested it 5 times during the day you would come up with 5 different stories. While she was concerned, she wasn’t flipped out and she encouraged me to AVOID the internet, and just go be calm. CHILL OUT. For most people, that seems totally reasonable, but I’m already starting to sweat it a little bit. Grounded this week will probably be good for me, but it’ll be a little bit of a struggle. I think it’s likely that DOING THINGS at 90mph both days every weekend and after work and in general ALL THE THINGS constantly is probably contributing, so slowing down in general will be an interesting process. I’m already through a big bottle of water this morning (there isn’t any direct scientific fact that this increases fluids for her, but it can’t hurt), so at least I’m on track.

In related news, kiddo is 2+ pounds now and here are some size comparisons (which seem very different to me, but you know, who knows):

Also, here’s a “how pregnant do you look” photo from this weekend that my buddy Ashley took for me at her Super Bowl party:
