37 weeks – 1 Day To Go

Wednesday (tomorrow) morning at 5am I’ll be checking in to the hospital. 37 weeks along with a tiny person who should be at least 5lbs.

Yesterday I packed up my desk and said goodbye to work friends before heading to the doctor for the last non stress test and final discussion before The Big Event.  Per usual, she had a great heart beat and everything looked perfect. I’ve been noticing some general crampy discomfort and decided it was just “one more weird thing” but the doctor said “oh, looks like you’ve been having some contractions but she’s doing just fine with them. That’s totally normal for someone this far along in pregnancy.” I said “oh, that’s what that is, okay good to know.” But in my head I just thought “Woah there girl, hold your horses, you are not invited to show up early!”

I went by the gym and got to see a lot of friends and Nathan and I did our final weigh in. At the end of the day, I ended up winning by almost 6lbs, but he made a valiant effort and gained 14lbs – all of which are showing up in his workouts so I’m super proud of him. He mostly blames my not being there to heckle him into eating more for the lack of final gains, which I told him not to worry about. He’s got a pretty free schedule, so I suggested he come on up to the house to hang out and eat with me while I’m on leave. Just because I’m not going to gain any more (I hope) doesn’t mean he can’t! He laughed and agreed.

Friends were excited for me and asked for the Meal Train website again so they could sign up for food, so if you’d like to do that, it’s here: https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/gq4m5o

At the doctor’s office I went ahead and scheduled my 2 week follow up appointment and then headed over to get pre-op paperwork done at the hospital. So now I’ve got my little yellow ID bracelet on and have done all my pre-boarding check in work. I was joking yesterday that I’ve got my wristband to the coolest concert in town ready to go!

I’ve had an outpouring of support, advice, “been there/done that” weigh ins from friends and I feel very fortunate to have so many people invested and excited for us.

My mom and I will head to the hospital at crazy o’clock tomorrow morning and meet Katrina, then it sounds like I get hauled into surgery around 7:30, kiddo gets relocated, and then we go to recovery for about half an hour after before I’m back in my room with a tiny person until they let us leave a few days later. I expect to be heading home either Friday or Saturday and have secured a ride and multiple back up plans.

The idea of going in to the hospital as one person and leaving as two is still a strange thing to consider. A friend from work laughed at me Monday about how I wouldn’t believe anything until I saw it – and she’s right on this one. Even though medical professionals keep telling me that this is a Real Thing That Is Happening, I’m skeptical about all of it. Sure, this happens to other people all the time, but me? Ehhh I dunno about all that.

Here are our final size comparisons from my app:

I’ll be sure to post about the exciting adventure tomorrow!
