Here we go again with this ridiculous shit – Ember is 8 weeks old today but won’t be hitting two months til the 12th next week. I continue to boycott the “weeks old” world. She’s almost two months old.
People told me my newborn would “wake up” meaning she’d have more time to interact after she ate and wouldn’t just sleep all the time. Lately we’ve definitely moved up to Wakey Baby. She’s been playing on her little activity mat the past few days and having a blast. It’s so funny that last week I tried to put her on it and she was totally uninterested but now she seems to love stretching out, kicking her feet and looking at all the stuff going on (and the window next to it).

Ember is a fan of her paci here and there but tends to lose it pretty often. Then she’ll cry and be upset, so I’ve been joking that another baby has rushed in and stolen it. She doesn’t think it’s anywhere near as funny as I do at 3 am.
She recently got her owl paci somehow out of her mouth AND on top of her head. At first I just wondered how she did it as she sat there quietly, but then when I went to take a picture she lost it and got very upset. I couldn’t help but laugh and think “thanks a lot mom! I’m being attacked by a wild owl and all you can do is take a stupid picture!”

We’re working on balance of doing things around the house, running errands out of the house and simply hanging out together and enjoying the time we have. I’m also trying to make an effort to get more photos of US together instead of just her, so here’s one I was happy with.

Of course, for each nice photo of the two of us, we get ten awful ones. Gigi and I laughed and laughed at this one where she looks like Alfred Hitchcock with no neck, poor thing. For the record, most of the “bad” photos were of me – not her.
We go to the pediatrician next week and I recently noticed that she has a little flat spot on the side of her head so I’ll ask about that. Dr Katie is out on maternity leave, but when I inquired about it, she said that with all the focus on keeping them on their backs, it’s pretty hard to avoid but that usually it wasn’t a big deal. I immediately polled all my mom friends and they said the same. As usual, you just can’t win. Otherwise, all is well.
I can’t believe it’s already June. I know they say time flies by and it really does. I’m so lucky to have her and have this time with her – I couldn’t ask for more. Oh, maybe a stretch of sleep more than 2 or 3 hours, sure, but that will come eventually (right?!?!).
