Wakey Baby

When Ember would be more alert (or when she seemed wide awake when it was “oh God please sleep now” time), we reffered to her as Wakey Baby. My friend Katrina, mother of two adorable boys, kept asking when she was “waking up” as in, becoming more alert and less of a newborn who is ate and slept all the time. Of course, she’s been more alert for a while now, but she’s just started to get interested in toys and doing more interacting and smiling. As she gets closer to 3 months, that’s normal development and it’s so much fun to watch.

Watching her figure out her world is exciting and part of me is a little sad knowing that I won’t be around 24 hours a day to see it soon, but I am excited for her to go to Day Care where they will do so much more than we do at home. When her room teacher told me “I’m going to get your baby dirty” I was so excited – playing in paint and sand and all kinds of cool texture stuff is exactly what I want for her.

Today I remembered that toys came with the little chair she spends time sitting in, so I’ve got them attached now and she’s had a blast this morning.

We also got a new play mat to take from place to place when she visits with Gigi, Mimi and Bapu, and MaMaw and Grandpa.

She loves the birds on her swing (which she hadn’t noticed until this past week).

And is still a big fan of her caterpillar mat (and especially that red and purple lady bug).

This morning she began to realize that she could move things with her hands and it was a Big Deal.

As 3 months comes up, we are embarking on new territory and suddenly all the dangling toys that were once just in the way are now the focus. It’s all so very exciting. I’m so glad to have been able to spend these months with her at home.
