Today, Easter Sunday, April 12th, 2020, Ember Walker Rose turned 3 years old. It wasn’t the birthday we had planned originally – we were going to go to Disney to see Princesses at the end of March for her big 3rd birthday. The girl LOVES Disney Princesses. LOVES.
We were sad to cancel our plans, but considering there’s a global pandemic and we’ve been self quarantining since March 13th, we know it’s for the best. We have rescheduled to the end of September.
So what to do for a 3 year old girl’s birthday when everyone is sheltering in place?
Well, we figured you bring the Princesses to her. A friend tipped me off to the fact that a lot of the girls were doing video calls and so we got her all signed up. She had a call from Elsa, Anna and Moana – they sang songs, read her stories, asked questions, and she sat rapt, distracted, giggling, and sang along. It was perfect.

She got gifts from Mamaw and Granddaddy, Mimi and Bapu, mom and dad, and Gigi who joined us for a homemade pound cake and to play.

We’ve had a blast. It’s been a long day even without a big party. I fully expect this entire week to be a birthday celebration.
I also fully expect to be a stay at home working mom with two kids until the end of May. We will see. Every day is fun but I am excited at the prospect of going back to work where all I have to do is spreadsheets and meetings.
