27 Weeks – Heartburn, Baby Showers, Etc

27 Weeks this week – Ember weighs 2lbs and they say she’s about 15 inches long. Size comparison here.

Also, apparently, the size of a bunch of bananas.

Last week I thought to myself “oh, man, I feel terrible – I guess this is when pregnant starts being miserable.” Turns out, that’s how you feel when you come down with a virus. This week I’m back to feeling fine. Have been to the gym each day and although I feel like I’m merely earning a participation ribbon by showing up and having to modify stuff, I’m glad I’m going. It’s far better than doing nothing.

I’ve got a new exciting pregnant girl symptom and it’s heartburn. It’s not ruining my life but it’s one of those “oh that’s annoying” things that I’m glad didn’t happen until now. Tums are delicious chalk and I’ll continue to munch on them as needed.

Definitely Feel and Look pregnant. Friends at work keep me updated “yep, you look pregnant today,” which I appreciate because before I was concerned about just looking “squishy” and chunky.

People are laying hands on me and smiling in weird ways, so that’s cool. I think I thought this would all be much more WILD and CRAZY than it is. Probably the fact that it all happens rather slowly helps it seem less insane. I still kinda feel like I’m about the size I would be, back in the day, when I’d stand in the mirror and go “geeze I feel full -this is what I’d look like pregnant!” And take a deep breath in and push my stomach out. I’m going to pretend like EVERYONE does that and just go on with my day.

28 week ultrasound and glucoe test Monday will be fun. My birth coach and pal Katrina is on maternity leave and will be going along with me to hang out and see this tiny person (while bringing along her own tiny person).

Mid-February I’ve got a 4D ultrasound scheduled that my mom will attend and that should be fun. That weekend she and I will go to an all day class about birth stuff at the hospital I’m planning on delivering in and get a bunch of info.

I’ve got baby showers coming up which is a little weird. The last time I registered for stuff I was 24 and getting married. I keep shuffling stuff on and off the registry and going “I don’t even NEED this stuff!” But I’m excited that people are excited for me, and although I’m terrible at receiving gifts, I’ll be happy to get things for kiddo and feel lucky to have people that want to pitch in. Registering was Stressful so I ended up just signing up at Target for all of it – that was much simpler than being spread multiple places.

So that’s it for this week unless something crazy happens this weekend. US Men’s Soccer team is in town tomorrow so it’ll be fun to go hang out and watch a game (no beer for me, sadly) with the Hooligan crew. And next weekend we’ve got a game for the CFC boys against Atlanta’s new MLS team and I’ll be glad to attend – the likelihood that I’ll make many games this season is pretty low since we start up RIGHT after she’ll be making her debut.
