Last High Risk Appt

This Friday I had my last High Risk appointment – I happily waved goodbye as I left and someone said I’d graduated.

This also meant the last time I’d see kiddo on an ultrasound (probably) and per usual she wasn’t cooperating so we didn’t get any stunning photos to share. Her fluid was the same as usual at 6.8 AFI and the doctor (who I’d not met before but heard she was the best from everyone) said she didn’t have much concern about Ember needing to end up in the NICU. She shook her head and said “nah – a little girl at 37 weeks? She’ll be fine.” I asked about her weight being low and she shrugged it off, saying she would expect somewhere around 5lbs. That was good to hear – I’ve been worrying mostly about having her rushed off to the NICU. Well, that and a bunch of other weird things.

Of course you worry. I’ve been worried about logistics – how do I get us a ride home since my mom will be at work Friday? When will they release me? What should I pack? Oh – I should make an Easter Basket for the nurses! How will Katrina know where to find me and my mom since we’re getting there at 5 am? Who will go find my dear sweet boyfriend who is offering to be there in the waiting room? You know, none of the BIG things like – WHAT WILL I DO WITH A BABY?

Wrapping up life at work has been interesting as I’ve been straddling between training someone to do my job for 4 months and trying to stay busy.  My last day will be Monday where I’ll pack up my computer to take home in preparation for working part time toward the end of my leave.

Getting the house ready has been a process from long ago, but I’d say I’m pretty well ready – house and stuff wise, at least.

This weekend has been great with the boyfriend – going to dinner and swinging by the Hunter Art Museum, walking on the Walnut Street Bridge and doing general “date” things we don’t always do.

Sunday I’ve got some time scheduled to get a haircut and a pedicure, assuming those won’t be the sort of things I’ll be doing often for a while (not that I do normally, but you know.)

Monday I’ll have my last appointment with the doctor for another non stress test and will swing by the ER to have blood drawn in preparation for Wednesday. I’m also planning to go by the gym for a Final Weigh In with my buddy Nathan – I think I’m finally going to be ahead unless he’s eaten A LOT the past two weeks.

I’m taking Tuesday off work to get everything settled (and do laundry), buy some actual groceries to have at the house and spend some quality time with my friend/birth coach Katrina before the Big Day.

And then we get down to it. I’ll be checking in at 5am on April 12th and am scheduled for surgery around 7am. Holy moly. The doctor said that usually people check out of the hospital within a couple of days, so I’m hoping to be home by Easter Sunday at the latest.

It then occurred to me – will Kiddo have to share a birthday with Easter Sunday on a regular basis? Looks like not.
