Wow! It’s been a while

Well! It’s been a while since I posted here – almost a month! Life is busy with a 14 month old baby, I guess!

I am settling into the new job, and Ember is doing her part to help me as much as possible at the office.

She’s still having a blast at daycare and is spending most of her time creeping from one piece of furniture to the other while she does all the babbling and pointing possible. Mostly she says versions of ba, ma, da but has started to use two syllable words and a myriad of other exclamations and emotions. We find that OTHER people keep telling us what she’s saying while we just go “uhhh okay?” She has been known to say: April (her giraffe paci), Bubbles, MaMaw, bottle, and probably a hundred other things that sound to us like babadadamamaba. She is playing peek a boo and dancing often, and has a TON of teeth coming in – two molars and now four teeth on top and four on bottom.

More than anything else, she loves BOOKS! She will open them, point to the words, turn the pages, and loudly read the story to you. She’s only just started to let me read with her – before that, when I’d reach for the book she would yank it away and close it. Obviously I was doing it wrong!

We took a family trip to Asheville a few weekends ago and had a blast.

Although we DID get stuck in the rain, Ember had an excellent attitude while we both adjusted ours.

We saw the Biltmore house and gardens, Kevin went to a soccer game, and just overall had a great time together.

This past weekend was Father’s Day, and there’s no question how much these two love each other. We spent some time with Kevin’s mom and dad as well, which was nice. Ember worked on her piano skills AND pickpocketing.

But the BIGGEST news of all is that today at daycare Ember took her first step unassisted – to which all her teachers yelled so loud that other people thought something was wrong. “Get Morgen!!” Was met with panic, and then everyone laughed at the mini heart attack they’d had. Needless to say, by the time I rushed up to see her (after I stopped crying from ALL the feelings), she was happily crawling around with no interest in doing her trick again. Ha ha ha.

I’m not worried – soon she’ll be both walking and talking non-stop and I’ll wish for the days before.

Being her mom is the best thing that has ever happened to me and it does feel like every minute goes by too fast (or too slowly when she won’t go back to sleep at 4am). But each phase she moves into is so much fun that it makes the heartache of the phase she’s leaving a less little tough.
